Company Information

Amanuensis is the business name of Guido Lenz Translation Services.
The company began work in 1996 and has extended its services continuously and especially since 1998. Before founding Amanuensis owner Guido Lenz produced professional translations. After training as a survey technician and working in the field (i.e., plot measurement, cadastre surveys, building stakeouts and engineering surveys) and in the office (cadastre calculations, CAD-planning, profiling, etc.), Guido Lenz worked as a copy editor for Datacom New Zealand's surveying and GPS software SDRmap. The software was sold under the name TrimCAD in Germany. During editing and proofing of the manuals, which were translated in New Zealand, articles and software extensions had to be translated from English to German.

When the original employer, GPS GEAR GmbH, changed its core business to precise GPS applications in surveying, engineering, navigation for airplanes and ships, open pit mining and military applications, more and more translations where needed: manuals, quick references, product data sheets as well as agreements and business correspondence.

As other companies in the GPS, engineering and surveying sector noticed these translations and requested quotations or sent in orders, Guido Lenz Translation Service was born in agreement with GPS GEAR GmbH.

Amanuensis translates and authors English-German texts. Close contacts with agencies and numerous freelance translators as well as access to national and international databases enables us to offer translations in almost every language pair.

Services in many Fields

Today, Amanuensis' customers not only come from GPS and software. Although these are still the main areas of interest and specialty of Amanuensis, we translate in the fields of electronics, horse keeping, homeopathy and economics as well as general interest areas such as correspondence manuals, etc.

Amanuensis keeps up to date in all important areas by keeping an eye on developments in markets and technology. This is particularly important in fast growing markets, which include GPS technology and generally everything connected to computers and the Internet. Fail to use two languages actively here and you will soon loose track.

Translation work has not been done with a pen or typewriter and paper for a long time. Nowadays the personal computer has also conquered this profession.

Neuronal full text and terminology databases support us in working life and help us to keep quality at a high level while caring for your personal preferences. Would you prefer your document to be called a "Manual", a "User's Guide" or "Instructions"? With our tools we get it right every time!

So it is easy to understand that your web site is cared for the same way that we look after a technical article on your new product, its data sheet or an agreement with your new sales partner in North America or Germany.

Many people want more than an accurate translation of a document, though. You get a lot of lengthy documents these days, e.g. patent papers or detailed marketing papers. What you want and need now is information reduced to a minimum. The costs you and your highly trained employees save by reading only 10 or 30 pages instead of 120 is readily apparent.

Amanuensis does not only offer to translate, but to proof read material for the printer as well saving you another item on your balance sheet.

Additionally, we can write a complete manual for your new product – be it hard- or software – or prepare a text your technical writers can start with.
